The Municipality of Northern Bruce Peninsula is located on the Bruce Peninsula in Bruce County.  The municipality was formed on January 1, 1999, when the townships of St. Edmunds, Lindsay, and Eastnor, as well as the Village of Lion's Head, were amalgamated. Its main population centres are Lion's Head and Tobermory. Other communities include Barrow Bay, Clarke's Corners, Dyer's Bay, Ferndale, Hope Bay, Miller Lake, Pike Bay, and Stokes Bay. It is home to the Bruce Peninsula National Park, the Fathom Five National Marine Park, and the Lion's Head Provincial Park.
 
Tobermory is known as the "fresh water Scuba diving capital of the world" because of the numerous shipwrecks that lie in the surrounding waters, especially in Fathom Five National Marine Park. Tobermory and the surrounding area are popular vacation destinations, with people coming for the beaches, the diving, the untouched countryside and the relaxed pace of life. The town lies just north of the Bruce Peninsula National Park.
 
Bruce Peninsula National Park of Canada--The ‘Bruce’ is considered a place of global significance and is situated in the heart of a world biosphere reserve.  Living within the park’s massive, rugged cliffs are thousand year old cedar trees, which overhang the crystal blue waters of Georgian Bay.  The park is home to an impressive array of habitats, from rare alvars to dense forests and clean lakes.  This is the largest remaining area of natural habitat in southern Ontario.  The peninsula is known country wide for its wide variety of wildflowers.  Wildlife common in the Bruce are chipmunks, squirrels, raccoons, porcupines, snowshoe hares, skunks, white tailed deer, snakes, frogs, foxes, fishers, martins and black bear.  Though not commonly found, as it is an endangered species, the park is also home to the Massassauga rattlesnake. Fathom Five National Marine Park is Canada's first National Marine Conservation Area.  It preserves a rich cultural legacy of twenty-two shipwrecks and several historic light stations. Its ecosystem contains some of the most pristine, deep and sparkling waters within the Great Lakes.  The islands of Fathom Five are Cove Island (which is the largest, closest to the mainland, and has the greatest variety of island wildlife including deer, bears and rattlesnakes) while Flowerpot Island (which is smaller and more remote, has no rattlesnakes or bears) offers trails, washrooms, a picnic shelter and camping.
 
CHI CHEEMAUN Ferry
Taking a trip aboard Chi-Cheemaun is a long-standing Great Lakes tradition dating back to the 1930s when a small, wooden vessel, Kagawong, first ferried automobiles across the Georgian Bay between Tobermory and South Baymouth.  It features a drive-on, drive-off bow and stern loading and unloading through a visored bow system and a square door stern section. The ship is 111 m (364 ft) with a 19 m (62 ft) beam and has capacity for 648 passengers and 143 vehicles, including room for large highway vehicles.

Lion’s Head Homecoming Weekend
