ABOUT GREY COUNTY

Grey County is located 2 hours north of Toronto, in Southwestern Ontario, and is also part of the Georgian Triangle. Being home to more than 92 thousand residents, Grey County is the fourth largest county in Ontario. It includes the city of Owen Sound, the towns of Hanover; Meaford and the Blue Mountains, as well as the townships of Chatsworth; Georgian Bluffs; Grey Highlands; Southgate and West Grey.
Nestled within the Niagara Escarpment, one of the wonders of the Natural World and a United Nations designated world biosphere reserve, there is always a stunning panoramic view to be seen. Home to the Saugeen & Sydenham Rivers; 7 waterfalls; Griffith’s Island (location of the Imperial Tower lighthouse, 1859); three conservation areas and the Bruce Trail, Canada’s oldest and longest footpath. Grey County grows more apples than any other county in all of Ontario, producing more than 25% of Ontario’s total apple product each year. Be sure to stop at least once along the Apple Pie Trail (www.applepietrail.ca/).
Being dedicated to managed, sustainable growth, Grey County offers agricultural and rural simplicity with an endless supply of activities in a relaxed and family oriented atmosphere. Its forests are full of beautiful trails (forests@grey.ca), commonly used for mountain biking; hiking; walking; birding; horseback riding; cross-country skiing and snowmobiling. Cycling in Grey County has been described as world class, with endless combinations of roads, off-roading and three great rail trails. The supply of outdoor activities from rock climbing to ice fishing, camping to golf, is never-ending. Georgian Bay, often called the sixth great lake, makes Grey County popular amongst sailors, windsurfers, divers and fishing fans.
Home to a number of museums, art galleries, heritage sites and live theatre, Grey County is rich in diverse cultural experience.
